Phil Brown

Artist Statement

Phillip D. Brown received his BA in Art and Art History from the University of California at Davis and his MFA in Painting from Mills College, Oakland, CA. He was an Adjunct Professor for Art at the Nevada County Campus of Sierra College for ten years. He now teaches private classes in oil, acrylic, and pastel at AS IF Studios, Grass Valley, CA. Phil paints in his studio on a daily basis. Phil is married and has one son and grandson. "In the tradition of the Hudson River School, I attempt to capture moments and places along the branches of the Yuba River and its watershed in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with the purpose of recording them and increasing their public importance as areas to respect —and save." ~ Phil Brown
